Ipso-phyto has been born of urgency to provide a range of tools for self reliance based on plants, primarily from the foods and medicines they provide. We are dedicated to bringing you up-to-date plant related information, specialising in medicinal plants and embracing the ancient adage “let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food”.

With the dawning of the peak-oil era, complete with its range of far-reaching effects including food scarcity and security issues, we will endeavour to highlight a number of ways that we can increase our self reliance, whether this is from growing foods or sustainably wild harvesting the vast array of useful plant species found in Britain.

We will try and help in a number of ways; through providing the various skills required to find, correctly identify, prepare, and use our common plants; by regularly publishing plant based information, both on-line and in hard copies, and offering a number of foraging courses in different parts of Britain. To this end, during 2010 we began publishing an occasional series of magazines “Hedgerow News”, which serves to highlight the abundance and accessibility of easily found plant medicines and foods, whilst exploring various nutritional and medical issues. We also began hosting our increasingly popular foraging courses for wild foods and hedgerow medicines in Dorset, Oxfordshire and beyond.

We openly admit to be only beginning our plant learning journey and are actively seeking collaborations in order to enhance the available knowledge of plant foods and medicines. We hope you enjoy your time here.
